My biggest problem wasn’t the writing itself, but the story. Whether it’s to experience the anxiousness of a frenzied scene or the intimacy of a character’s mental breakdown, the richness of it all demonstrates her incredible skills as a writer. Sarah Perry’s ability to pull you into the story is fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed the descriptive nature of her writing and how she brought the characters and their world to life. The first thing to note about this book is that the writing is gorgeous. Yes, I was still thinking about this book a full month later. The first is how I felt immediately after reading the book, while the second was written about a month later. Note: I’ve written this review in two parts. “How deeply I regret that I must put this document in your hands, and so make you the witness to what I have done!” – Melmoth, Sarah Perry
